Danny Briggs has been prolific in domestic cricket in England.

The T20 Blast has long been a stage for some of the world’s best short-format bowlers to compete in English domestic cricket.

The twenty-over tournament required bowlers to combine skill and accuracy while performing under pressure, with the margins being incredibly fine.

These 9 bowlers have amassed incredible wicket tallies in the competition.

But which star has taken the most?

9. Gareth Batty – 155 T20 wickets

Batty was a veteran off-spinner who captained Surrey in several T20 campaigns and also represented Worcestershire in the competition.

He took 155 wickets in his 193 matches with an impressive career economy of 7.27 highlighting his quality.

But it was his longevity that earned Batty his plaudits as he played first-class cricket until the age of 43.

8. Yasir Arafat – 156 T20 wickets

A T20 cricket globetrotter, Arafat took his all-round T20 skills around the world contributing runs and wickets in Australia’s Big Bash League as well as the T20 Blast.

Blast best figures of 4/5 an average of 21.10 show why he was valued so highly by the six counties he represented.

Arafat was one of the first Pakistani players to become a regular feature in English domestic T20 cricket.

7. David Willey – 166 T20 wickets

A more than useful all-rounder, Willey has long been a legend of the T20 Blast with 166 wickets in 169 matches.

His best outing ended in figures of 4/9 for Yorkshire highlighting his strength in breaking down batting lineups.

Willey was a key part of the England squad that won the 2022 T20 World Cup.

6. Ravi Bopara – 168 T20 wickets

Another veteran and popular face within the T20 Blast, the all-rounder has shown his value with regular contributions with both bat and ball.

He’s averaged 25.77 for the three counties that he has played for and once hit six sixes an over, highlighting the immense versatility that he brings.

5. Tom Smith – 188 T20 wickets

Smith’s left-arm spin has been incredibly effective in the T20 Blast with his 188 wickets in 181 matches highlighting his credentials.

A standout competition performance of 5/16 is one of the most economical five-wicket hauls in the history of the Blast.

He also once took a hat trick in the competition, showing his success is no luck.

4. Chris Wood – 191 T20 wickets

Wood has been ever dependable in white ball cricket for Hampshire and a key weapon in the death overs of a T20.

It’s taken him just 176 matches to rack up his 191 wickets as he’s performed consistently under pressure.

He’s been a crucial cog in Hampshire’s multiple T20-winning engine.

3. David Payne – 193 T20 wickets

Gloucestershire’s ever-consistent and reliable left-arm seamer has taken 193 wickets in 142 matches and has been a stalwart for the club.

His impressive average of 20.35 showcases his effectiveness whether with the new ball or in the death overs with the game on the line.

After years of dominant performances in the T20 Blast, Payne was called up to the England squad in 2022.

2. Samit Patel – 218 T20 wickets

A legend of the English county circuit, Patel has played a stunning 245 matches in the Blast.

His ability to bowl the middle overs, limit runs and take key breakthroughs has made him an influential part of Nottinghamshire’s T20 success where they have won multiple titles.

He last played Test cricket, against Pakistan, in 2015.

1. Danny Briggs – 248 T20 wickets

The all-time leading wicket-taker in the T20 Blast claimed his mammoth tally in just 206 matches at an average of 20.48.

He’d been a consistent performer in domestic cricket for over a decade while also being the youngest English spinner to debut in a T2o International at 20 years old. That was against South Africa.

He represented three counties in his record-breaking white-ball career.
