Proteas batsman Temba Bavuma has signed a three-month deal with English county side Northamptonshire for the 2019 season.

The 28-year-old Bavuma will be available for the second division side between May and June 2019 and is set to play eight county championship matches.

The right-handed batsman averages 33.81 with the bat after 31 Tests and has scored a century and 11 fifties in the longest format.

In all first-class cricket he’s made nearly 7 000 runs with 12 hundreds.

Northamptonshire’s chief executive Ray Payne said: “Signing a player of Temba’s international stature underlines our ambitions as a club.

“We are keen to return to the Championship’s top division and hopefully his runs will help us achieve that.

“His Test experience will bring an added dimension to the team and we’re all looking forward to welcoming a cricketer who is admired and respected around the cricketing world.”
