Hat-tricks in the IPL, indeed, are rare.

Yuzvendra Chahal is the latest player to take an IPL hat-trick. He did this in the 2025 tournament. This is his second IPL hat-trick. He took one in the 2022 IPL, too.

23. Yuzvendra Chahal – 2025 IPL hat-trick

Chahal’s latest IPL hat-trick came for the Punjab Kings against the Chennai Super Kings in Chepauk. He is the only bowler to take an IPL hat-trick against the five-time IPL champions. Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad were Chahal’s IPL hat-trick victims in 2025.

22. Rashid Khan – 2023 IPL hat-trick

Before Chahal in 2025, Khan was the last leg-spinner to take a hat-trick in the IPL. He took it for the Gujarat Titans against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad. Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur were the three wickets in the IPL hat-trick.

21. Yuzvendra Chahal – 2022 IPL hat-trick

Chahal’s first IPL hat-trick was for the Rajasthan Royals against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai. His wickets were Shteyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins.

20. Harshal Patel – 2021 IPL hat-trick

Patel is the most recent player to take an Indian Premier League hat-trick outside India. He did it for the Royal Challengers against the Mumbai Indians in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The wickets were Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Rahul Chahar.

19. Shreyas Gopal – 2019 IPL hat-trick

Gopbal was playing for the Rajasthan Royals against the Royal Challengers Bangalore when he dismissed Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis for an IPL hat-trick in Bengaluru.

18. Sam Curran – 2019 IPL hat-trick

Playing for the Kings XI Punjab against the Delhi Capitals, the England left-arm seamer got rid of Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada and Sandeep Lamichhane for his IPL hat-trick.

17. Jaydev Unadkat – 2017 IPL hat-trick

When the Rising Pune Supergiant team was still around in the IPL, they had Unadkat, who collected a hat-trick in the tournament by removing Bipul Sharma, Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in succession in Hyderabad.

16. Andrew Tye, 2017 IPL hat-trick

The Australian seamer was with the Gujarat Lions against the Rising Pune Supergiant in Rajkot when he removed Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary and Shardul Thakur for his IPL hat-trick.

15. Samuel Badree, 2017 IPL hat-trick

Opening the bowling for the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Mumbai Indians in Bengaluru, the West Indies leg-spinner took an IPL hat-trick by dismissing Parthiv Patel, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma.

14. Axar Patel, 2016 IPL hat-trick

Patel was with the Kings XI Punjab when he took out Gujarat Lions trio Dinesh Karthik, Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja in Rajkot. That’s three pretty big wickets for an IPL hat-trick.

13. Shane Watson, 2014 IPL hat-trick

Watson was another Australian to take an IPL hat-trick and another cricketer to do it in Ahmedabad. He was playing for the Rajasthan Royals against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and dismissed Shikhar Dhawan, Moises Henriques and Karn Sharma.

12. Pravin Tambe, 2014 IPL hat-trick

Tambe is another leg-spinner with an IPL hat-trick. His hat-trick comprised his only three wickets of the match for the Rajasthan Royals against the Kolkata Knight Riders. His victims were Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan and Ryan ten Doeschate.

11. Amit Mishra, 2013, IPL hat-trick

Mishra remains the only player in the history of the Indian Premier League to take three hat-tricks. This one was for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Pune Warriors in Pune. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Sharma and Ashok Dinda were his victims. The first was out lbw and the next two bowled.

10. Sunil Narine, 2013 IPL hat-trick

Narine was the first spinner not from India to take a hat-trick in the Indian Premier League. He is still the only player with an IPL hat-trick in Mohali. He took it for the Kolkata Knight Riders against the Kings XI Punjab. Narine’s victims were David Hussey, Azhar Mahmood and Gurkeerat Singh.

9. Ajit Chandila, 2012 IPL hat-trick

Chandila collected the only hat-trick in the 2012 edition of the IPL. Opening the bowling for the Rajasthan Royals against the Pune Warriors in Jaipur, the off-spinner dismissed Jesse Ryder, Sourav Ganguly and Robin Uthappa.

8. Amit Mishra, 2011 IPL hat-trick

Mishra took the only hat-trick of the 2011 IPL. This one was for the Deccan Chargers against the Kings XI Punjab in Dharamsala. His victims were Ryan McLaren, Mandeep Singh and Ryan Harris.

7. Praveen Kumar, 2010 IPL hat-trick

Playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Rajasthan Royals in Bengaluru, Kumar removed DR Martyn, Sumit Narwal and Paras Dogra for his IPL hat-trick.

6. Yuvraj Singh, 2009 IPL hat-trick

This was Singh’s second hat-trick in the same IPL season. Still with the Punjab Kings, this time he did it against the Deccan Chargers at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. His victims were Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Symonds and Venugopal Rao.

5. Rohit Sharma, 2009 IPL hat-trick

Sharma is probably the only part-time bowler that has an IPL hat-trick. He took it for the Deccan Chargers against the Mumbai Indians in Centurion, South Africa. His wickets were Abihishek Nayar, Harbhajan Singh and JP Duminy.

4. Yuvraj Singh, 2009 IPL hat-trick

Singh was the first all-rounder to take an IPL hat-trick and remains the only player to take two hat-tricks in one IPL season.  The IPL was being played in South Africa when Singh hit a half-century and took a hat-trick in the same match for the Kings XI Punjab against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at Kingsmead in Durban.

His wickets were Robin Uthappa, Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher. The venue is also where India’s Singh hit England seamer Stuart Broad for six sixes in one over during the T20 World Cup.

3. Makhaya Ntini, 2008 IPL hat-trick

Ntini was the first non-Indian player to take a hat-trick in the IPL. The South African seamer did this for the Chennai Super Kings against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Chepauk. He got rid of Sourav Ganguly,

Mishra was the first leg-spinner to take a hat-trick in the Indian Premier League. He was playing the Delhi Daredevils (since renamed the Delhi Capitals) against the Deccan Chargers in Delhi and dismissed Ravi Teja, Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh.

1. Lakshmipathy Balaji, 2008 IPL hat-trick

Balaji took the first ever IPL hat-trick. He did it for the Chennai Super Kings against the Kings XI Punjab (since renamed Punjab Kings) in Chepauk during the inaugural Indian Premier League. Irfan Pathan, Piyush Chawla and Vikram Singh were Balaji’s IPL hat-trick victims.
