Indian Premier League will restart on 17 May 2025

The Board of Control for Cricket in India have confirmed the 2025 Indian Premier League will resume on 17 May.
This year’s edition of the IPL was suspended on 9 May amid violent political conflict between India and Pakistan.
The remainder of the tournament will be played at six venues:
- Bengaluru;
- Jaipur;
- Delhi;
- Lucknow;
- Mumbai; and
- Ahmedabad.
The venues for the play-offs will be confirmed. The first qualifier will be played on 29 May. The eliminator fixture will be played on 30 May. The second qualifier will be played on 1 June. The final will be played on 3 June.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India is pleased to announce the resumption of the IPL 2025,” read a statement from the BCCI.
“After extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders, the board has decided to proceed with the remainder of the season. A total of 17 matches will be played across six venues, starting 17 May 2025, and culminating in the final on 3 June 2025. The revised schedule includes two double-headers, which will be played on two Sundays.
“The BCCI takes this opportunity to once again salute the bravery and resilience of India’s armed forces, whose efforts have enabled the safe return of cricket. The board reaffirms its commitment to national interest while ensuring the successful completion of the league.”
The revised schedule will close the gap between the end of the IPL and the start of the World Test Championship final to seven days. Several South African and Australian players involved in the IPL will play in the WTC final at Lord’s in London, England.
The Gujarat Titans currently occupy first position on the IPL points table.
The Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the most successful teams in the history of the IPL, which started in 2008. Chennai and Mumbai have five titles each.
The Kolkata Knight Riders are the reigning champions and have three IPL titles.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals have never won an IPL title. All three teams are still in contention for a play-off berth this year.
Chennai, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals have been eliminated from play-off contention.
Virat Kohli, who plays for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, retired from Test cricket on Monday. Rohit Sharma, who plays for the Mumbai Indians, retired from Test cricket last week.
