Suryakumar Yadav outdoes Steven Smith and 3 other big names on list of most consecutive 25+ scores in IPL

Tuesday’s clash between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians was a thriller. With rain interruptions, fielding lapses, inspired bowling and the teams see-sawing on either side of the DLS par score, it had it all.
It ended with a win off the final ball for the Titans, with the final action taking place at almost 1am local time.
The game also featured a head-to-head battle for the Orange Cap. While RCB’s Virat Kohli started the night as the tournament’s leading scorer, two of the other contenders for the top spot were in action – Sai Sudharsan of the Titans had a rare failure as he scored just five runs to ease ahead of Kohli.
But he was one run short of passing Mumbai Indian’s Suryakumar Yadav who had earlier moved to the top of the list with a fluent 35 from 24 balls.
But aside from moving to the top of the Orange Cap standings, Yadav also set another record as he passed 25 runs for the 12th consecutive time in IPL cricket. It’s a phenomenal effort that highlights his ability to deliver consistently at the highest level.
For the record, Yadav’s last 12 innings have seen him post scores of 35, 48, 54, 40, 68*, 26, 40, 28, 67, 27*, 48 and 29. While his innings on Tuesday saw Yadav set a new record, who else features on the list of the most consecutive 25-run plus scores in the IPL?
5. Sai Sudharsan – 9 consecutive scores of 25+ in IPL in 2023-24
Young sensation Sai Sudharsan has made a massive impact for Gujarat Titans since bursting onto the scene. His consistent performances across the 2023 and 2024 seasons saw him post 25 runs or more in nine consecutive IPL innings, a remarkable achievement for a player so early in his career.
His calm and mature approach at the crease has quickly made him a fan favourite and it comes as no surprise that out of a top three that also includes Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill, it is Sudharsan who is the top performer. Whether chasing a target or setting one, Sudharsan has showcased a wide range of strokes, combined with a cool temperament under pressure. His ability to build innings and accelerate at the right time has made him one of the most dependable young batsmen in the league.
4. Steve Smith – 9 consecutive scores of 25+ in IPL in 2016-17
Australian superstar Steve Smith is better known for his Test and ODI heroics, but his consistency in T20 cricket is often overlooked. During the 2016 and 2017 Indian Premier League seasons, Smith put together a run of nine consecutive 25-plus scores while representing the Rising Pune Supergiant.
Smith’s technique and ability to find gaps with ease made him a reliable performer for his team. His ability to rotate strike and maintain a high strike rate without taking unnecessary risks made him a formidable force. His run of nine straight 25-plus scores highlighted his adaptability in the shortest format.
3. Virat Kohli – 9 consecutive scores of 25+ in IPL in 2024-25
Virat Kohli is certainly a name that needs no introduction, and in the 2024/25 season, he showed once again why he is one of the greatest of all time. His run of nine consecutive 25-plus scores came as he opened the batting for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Kohli’s ability to mix aggression with controlled stroke play has been a hallmark of his IPL cricket career. During this purple patch, he consistently provided RCB with strong starts, forming solid partnerships and keeping the scoreboard ticking. His hunger for runs and ability to adapt to different match situations is well documented and it has ensured that RCB nearly always has solid foundations to build on.
2. Robin Uthappa – 10 consecutive scores of 25+ in IPL in 2014
Robin Uthappa’s 2014 season with Kolkata Knight Riders was nothing short of magical. Opening the batting, Uthappa was unstoppable, registering 10 consecutive 25-plus scores in a season that saw KKR lift the IPL trophy.
Uthappa’s consistency at the top of the order laid the platform for KKR in almost every match. His ability to dominate the powerplay and maintain momentum throughout the innings made him a vital cog in KKR’s success. The season remains one of the most memorable in Uthappa’s career, and his run of 10 straight 25-plus scores is a testament to his class.
1. Suryakumar Yadav – 12 consecutive scores of 25+ in IPL in 2025
Suryakumar Yadav’s 2025 season with Mumbai Indians has been quite fantastic. His run of 12 consecutive 25-plus scores is a record in the IPL and it highlights his extraordinary consistency. The all-time T20 record for most consecutive scores above 25 belongs to South Africa batsman Temba Bavuma who managed 13 back in the 2019-20 season.
Yadav’s fearless approach, combined with his 360-degree range of strokes, has made him one of the most dangerous batsmen in the league. Whether coming in during a chase or setting a target, he has been a constant thorn in the side of opposition bowlers. His ability to score quickly, find gaps, and maintain composure under pressure has set him apart.
What makes this run even more impressive is the fact that Yadav has achieved this record during a period when Mumbai Indians have been in a heated race for the top spot on the table. In a format where one good ball or badly chosen shot can end an innings, maintaining this level of consistency is an incredible feat.
