LSG lose their top 3 run-scorers in IPL history, leaving Nicholas Pooran to assume the lead

Like the Gujarat Titans, the Lucknow Super Giants are the newcomers to Indian Premier League cricket. Founded in 2021, they played their first season of IPL in 2022.
Their results in the three seasons they have played thus far haven’t been quite as compelling as the Titans, but they have nevertheless been good. Twice they made the playoffs, finishing third in both 2022 and 2023 before something of a comedown in 2024 where they ended seventh.
As we approach the new season of IPL, let’s take a moment to look at who have been the leading run scorers for LSG in their first three seasons. There are seven batsmen who have crossed the 500-run mark for the franchise – here they are.
7. Krunal Pandya – 504 runs from 43 IPL matches for LSG at an average of 21.91
Known primarily for his left-arm spin, Krunal Pandya has also played some crucial knocks with the bat for LSG. Often batting in the middle order, Krunal has amassed 504 runs from 43 games at an average of 21.91.
While not known for consistently big scores, his ability to chip in with useful contributions down the order has often proved vital. Whether steadying the ship or finishing the innings, Krunal’s batting has provided much-needed balance to the Lucknow side.
6. Ayush Badoni – 634 runs from 42 IPL matches for LSG at an average of 24.38
One of the finds for LSG, Ayush Badoni has impressed with his composure and adaptability. Scoring 634 runs from 42 games at a respectable average of 24.38, Badoni has shown glimpses of his talent in the lower middle order.
Whether tasked with rescuing the innings or providing quick runs in the final overs, Badoni’s performances have justified the faith the management placed in him. He remains a player to watch as his game continues to develop – he has been retained by LSG for the 2025 season.
5. Deepak Hooda – 680 runs from 38 IPL matches for LSG at an average of 20.60
Deepak Hooda came into the LSG setup with a reputation as a hard-hitting middle-order batter, but his time with Lucknow has been somewhat inconsistent. In 38 games, Hooda has scored 680 runs at an average of 20.60.
While he has had his moments, including a few match-winning innings, Hooda has struggled for consistency. Still, his aggressive intent and ability to change a game on his day make him an important part of whichever squad he is part of – which in 2025 will be the Chennai Super Kings.

His elegant stroke play combined with his ability to accelerate made him one of the most important batters for the franchise during his stint. He won’t be back in 2025 however as he is now part of the squad at Kolkata Knight Riders.
2. Marcus Stoinis – 952 runs from 40 IPL matches for LSG at an average of 28.84
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been a crucial cog in the Lucknow Super Giants’ lineup. With 952 runs from 40 games at an average of 28.84, Stoinis has shown the ability to bat in different positions based on team requirements. Whether anchoring the innings or finishing games with brutal hitting, his versatility has been vital.
Stoinis also contributes with the ball, which made him one of the most valuable players in the LSG setup. In 2025 Stoinis will be making his magic for the Punjab Kings.
1. KL Rahul – 1,079 runs from 38 IPL matches for LSG at an average of 41.47

Known for his calm and composed approach, Rahul often anchors the innings and sets up platforms for the big hitters. His consistency at the top of the order has been crucial to LSG’s success, and his leadership on and off the field has been commendable.
Rahul’s big rival at international level is Rishabh Pant and it is Pant who has joined LSG as skipper for 2025. Pant will wear the gloves and take over the Rahul’s batting and leadership roles following the latter’s departure to the Delhi Capitals.
