Ranking the 10 teams with the most sixes in the 2025 IPL so far – it’s not that tight at the top

Shimron Hetmyer bats in IPL
Shimron Hetmyer has hit several sixes for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2025 IPL.

With the Indian Premier League suspended due to the ongoing tensions between neighbours India and Pakistan, now is a good time to take stock of how the tournament has unfolded and who is performing.

The action is due to recommence in little less than a week, which is good news for all concerned. But until then, which side has hit the most sixes in IPL 2025?

Let’s take a quick look. Quite curiously, there is very little correlation between positions on the league table and six-hitting – the team at the top of the list has already been eliminated from the play-offs. Here’s a quick look.

10. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 77 sixes in  2025 IPL

Despite boasting power-hitting talents like Travis Head at the top of the order and Heinrich Klaasen in the middle, Sunrisers Hyderabad have struggled to convert reputation into boundary-clearing fireworks this season.

Their total of 77 sixes places them last on this list, reflecting both their inconsistent batting form and the way opposition captains have often chosen to bowl at them during the middle overs.

While SRH’s home ground in Hyderabad has traditionally seen big scores, SRH’s slowness in the powerplay and a lack of sustained aggression in the death overs have limited their six-hitting numbers. Their Indian Premier League six tally is low and so is their points total – 2025 has not been their season.

9. Chennai Super Kings – 79 sixes in 2025 IPL

CSK have been underwhelming in 2025, managing just 79 sixes in their 11 games. Veteran skipper MS Dhoni still lights up the powerplay occasionally, but the supporting cast has lacked the explosiveness of past seasons.

Middle-order batsmen like Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja have chipped in with crucial knocks, yet their tendency to focus on rotation rather than pure maximums means the Super Kings haven’t fired aerially as they once did.

Chennai’s more measured, anchor-heavy batting approach hasn’t translated into frequent six-hitting, which explains their low tally. CSK are currently bottom of the points table following a very disappointing season.

8. Delhi Capitals – 85 sixes in  2025 IPL

Delhi Capitals sit just off the bottom of the six-hitting stakes with 85 sixes. Delhi are fifth on the actual table and still in with a very good shout of making the play-offs.

DC’s reliance on spin-heavy attacks has meant their own batters have focused on timing against spinners rather than brute power. As a result, while DC post competitive totals, they lack the raw maximum-count of the top performers in the league.

7. Kolkata Knight Riders – 89 sixes in 2025 IPL

KKR’s tally of 89 sixes highlights their dependence on the likes on aggressive openers like Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Quinton de Kock and Andre Russell’s carnage in the death overs.

The experienced Venkatesh Iyer and skipper Ajinkya Rahane have shown glimpses of thunderous hitting. Yet inconsistencies in their top order have meant that they rarely sustain the continuous boundary barrage seen by other teams. When KKR do click, their six-hitting rate climbs, but overall, they sit in the lower half of this list.

6. Gujarat Titans – 90 sixes in  2025 IPL

Sitting at the top of the table at the time of the league’s suspension GT have managed 90 sixes, reflecting a blend of solidity and mid-innings acceleration. Jos Buttler’s classy, lofted drives account for many of those maximums, while Shubman Gill and the irrepressible Sai Sudharsan have shown glimpses of power-hitting beyond just elegant timing.

GT’s balance means they don’t always seek the aerial route, preferring to build through 360-degree batting, which slightly reduces their six-count. There top order is in such good form it feels like they can score their runs without needing to resort to anything overly risky.

5. Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 96 sixes in 2025 IPL

RCB’s 96 sixes underline their strategic tilt towards aggressive batting, spearheaded by Virat Kohli and the mercurial Romario Shepherd. Kohli’s lofted cover drives and Shepherd’s undisguised aggression have combined to make Bengaluru a frequent boundary-clearing machine.

Traditional big-hitter Glenn Maxwell has failed to fire and has ended up out of the starting eleven, but Jacob Bethell and Phil Salt have offered plenty alongside Kohli at the top of the order.

4. Mumbai Indians – 100 sixes in 2025 IPL

MI’s magic veneer remains intact, with 100 sixes scored across their 11 games. Suryakumar Yadav’s rapid paddle sweeps, and mid-wicket heaves have been sensational and as the tournament has progressed the form of the aggressive opening duo of Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma has increasingly managed to impose itself on proceedings.

MI’s penchant for late-overs acceleration keeps them firmly in the century-six club, mirroring their penchant for clutch finishes.

3. Lucknow Super Giants – 111 sixes in 2025 IPL

LSG stand on 111 sixes, propelled by Nicholas Pooran’s early season form. Opener Aiden Markram and Mitch Marsh have also contributed plenty with their good form at the top of the order.

LSG have seen their form dip in recent games, to the point where the early pacesetters may not advance to the play-offs, but what they haven’t lost is the ability to find the fence.

Middle-order stars like David Miller, Abdul Samad and Ayush Badoni regularly clear the ropes. They may have lost last time out against the Punjab Kings, but they still managed to score almost 40% of their run total via sixes.

2. Punjab Kings – 120 sixes in 2025 IPL

Surprisingly, PBKS have rung up 120 sixes, second only to Rajasthan Royals. Chris Gayle’s inherited aerial legacy was replaced by Prabhsimran Singh hunger for maximums (he banged seven in his last innings alone), while captain Shreyas’s steadiness and consistency mean he is always good for a few big ones.

With the middle and lower order dominated by power-hitting allrounders like Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen and Azmatullah Omarzai, it is no wonder that PBKS find themselves at the upper end of this list. In their last completed game before the leagues’ suspension they hit 96 runs via sixes (more than 40% of their total).

1. Rajasthan Royals – 123 sixes in 2025 IPL

Topping the six-hitting leaderboard are Rajasthan Royals with 123 sixes – despite being so good at clearing the fence the have already been eliminated from the play-offs – proof that maximums don’t always equal wins. Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s teenage blitzes, including his 35-ball century, account for a chunk of the damage.

Riyan Parag’s creativity, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s timing, and Shimron Hetmyer’s brute force combine to create Rajasthan’s aerial excellence. Even their lower order always seems keen to clear the fence – they are empowered to go big at every level.
