England fast bowler Chris Tremlett lamented a "frustrating" three sessions, after the Western Australian Chairman's XI reached a telling total of 369 for four on day one of an important three-day tour fixture in Perth on Thursday.

The visiting attack, minus the services of the rested Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann, toiled throughout – as the talented Chris Lynn amassed a century and openers Marcus Harris and Luke Towers cherished 69 and 77 respectively.

"It was a hard day and a frustrating day. As a bowling attack we pride ourselves on consistency and if we're honest the bowlers were a little bit inconsistent. I'd put that down to rustiness, we've all not played for a while but it's nice to get miles in the legs and hopefully we'll come back and improve on what we've done," said Tremlett.

"We've been here about a week and today was a big jump in terms of overs. We've only bowled about four overs in a day so far so to go to about 17 or 18 overs each is a big jump. We'll take the positives from that, it's good to get the miles in the legs. It's a shame we were a bit inconsistent in lines and lengths but something we can improve on in rest of the trip."

While the Irish-born Boyd Rankin, attack spearhead James Anderson, part-timer Joe Root and all-rounder Ben Stokes secured a wicket each, the lanky Tremlett went without breakthrough – harming his chances of a call-up to the Test XI for the Ashes opener, which will get underway in Brisbane on 21 November.

"Fair play to them. The pitch probably played a bit different to what we're used to. It wasn't the quick, bouncy wicket that we 're used to and have played on before. They came at us hard and capitalised on our bad bowling at times," he added.

"I thought I had a couple of good spells and a couple where I struggled. We were bowling as a unit, obviously there is a space up for grabs but we're not thinking about that too much."
