Former team-mate Ravi Shastri has insisted veteran Indian batsman is not going to retire from international cricket soon.

Tendulkar is very likely to play a record 200th Test match, against the West Indies, later this year. The looming milestone has brought plenty of speculation over the 40-year-old's future.

"Sachin will not quit the game so soon as you all keep saying. He would continue to play and you will see him at Lord's next year too," said Shastri.

Shastri, meanwhile, questioned the Board of Control for Cricket in India's decision to remove fixtures from the tour of South Africa later this year – in order to facilitate the two-Test home series against the West Indians.

"The problem was in communication but there will be some cricket played by India in South Africa," added Shastri, who played 80 Tests and 150 ODIs between 1981 and 1992.
