Markram injury concern for Proteas
South Africa opening batsman Aiden Markram is in a race against time to fit for the third and final Test against India after not taking field in the second innings in Centurion.
The 23-year-old has a mild left quadricep strain with the Proteas medical staff confirming that he will receive treatment and rehabilitation over the next week with the third Test starting Johannesburg on 24 January.
Markram, who scored 93 in the first innings of the Test in Centurion, has made a superb start to his Test career – scoring two centuries and two fifties in his five Tests so far.
If the Titans player is unavailable for the third Test it would leave the home side in a difficult spot as there are no obvious replacements.
A solution could be to ask one of the reserve batsmen in the squad, Temba Bavuma or Theunis de Bruyn, to fill in for a one-off Test.
Bavuma and De Bruyn have bOth opened in Test cricket before but without much success.
