Akmal cleared to play in first T20I

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have confirmed that Umar Akmal will be available for the national side when they take on New Zealand in the first T20I at Eden Park on Friday.

Akmal was set to miss the first game in the three-match series as he had copped a one game suspension after breaching equipment regulations in a domestic match.

However, the 25 year-old's suspension has been put on hold as Akmal, who has always protested his innocence, has decided to appeal his ban.

Because he has appealed, Akmal is allowed to play until the results of the hearing are known.

The PCB said in a statement: "Umar has advised PCB that he wishes to appeal against the ban.

"Since Umar has opted to appeal against the decision, hence as per the PCB's regulations, the penalty of one match will remain suspended until the decision of appellate tribunal."
