England pair James Anderson and Alastair Cook, Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara, Australian captain Michael Clarke, South African batsman Hashim Amla and Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni have been nominated for the International Cricket Council Cricketer of the Year award.
Amla, Anderson and Clarke are also among the nominees, which include Indian duo Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravichandran Ashwin and South African fast bowler Dale Steyn, for the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year accolade.
Sangakkara, Dhoni, team-mates Shikhar Dhawan and Ravindra Jadeja and Pakistan pair Misbah-ul-Haq and Saeed Ajmal encompassed the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year candidates.
The short-list nominations, which include ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year and Associate and Affiliate Cricketer of the Year categories, were finalised by an independent 32-person panel – led by former India captain and current ICC cricket committee chairman Anil Kumble. Performances between 7 August 2012 and 25 August 2013 were considered.
Cook and Dhoni, meanwhile, were named captains of the Test and ODI Teams of the Year respectively. Steyn was included in the Test XI for the sixth consecutive year, while Amla welcomed a berth for the fourth straight year.
The awards are based on performances over a 12-month period that ended on August 25, 2013 and included the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, the Champions Trophy in England and the women's World Cup in India. The awards will be handed out 14 December.
