Amla: Proteas still motivated to win an ICC event

South Africa batsman Hashim Amla insists that he and the team remain motivated and will concentrate on winning the Champions Trophy next year to win their elusive first ICC event.

The Proteas have disappointingly been knocked out of the ongoing World T20 at the Super 10 stage having lost group matches to England and West Indies while they beat Associate side Afghanistan.

It is felt that a group of senior Proteas players, Amla included, had their last chance to win a global title at this year's World T20.

Amla said: "A lot of us are extremely keen to keep playing international cricket. It's something we've enjoyed. A lot of us feel like we've got a few more years left in us.

"It would be great if we can make it to the next 50-over World Cup – that would be ideal. But first we've got a Champions Trophy next year.

"As long as you are fit and healthy and scoring runs and you warrant your place in the team then hopefully you can make it."

The Proteas play Sri Lanka in their final World T20 game on Monday in Delhi with both teams already out of the competition.
