Archer will get his opportunity to impress – Bayliss

England coach Trevor Bayliss has suggested that Jofra Archer will be given a chance to make England’s World Cup squad ahead of the summer.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Barbados, qualifies to play for England through his father and England look set to jump on the opportunity ahead of the World Cup.

England will finalise their squad on May 22, and Archer will be handed a chance to shine in the warm-up matches against Ireland and Pakistan, before then.

Archer took 18 wickets in 15 matches for Hobart Hurricanes in the 2018-19 Big Bash in Australia, and is rated as one of the most valuable limited-overs players in the world.

“Archer’s name keeps cropping up and I think at some stage we will give him an opportunity,” said Bayliss. “Those matches against Pakistan and Ireland, I think he will get an opportunity to show us what he can do.

“There was a little bit of contact made during the Australian summer (English winter), when there was talk about the date that he qualified, or how many days he needed to be back in the UK. He’s said publicly that he’s keen.”
