Atapattu still in line for Sri Lanka head coach job

Sri Lanka cricket have confirmed that there are two names in the running for the vacant head coach position, including current interim coach Marvan Atapattu, who is favourite to stay in the role.
Atapattu took over from Paul Farbrace earlier this year when the latter quit ahead of the tour to England, and went to join the English management as assistant coach to Peter Moores.
Since then, Atapattu has done an admirable job with the side, winning in England and skipper Angelo Mathews going from strength to strength as leader. The other name on the list could be anyone from Mickey Arthur to Eric Simons.
The SLC said on Tuesday: “Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that at the meeting held today it was decided to shortlist 2 candidates for the above post which included Marvan Attapattu.
“The Committee had a discussion with Marvan Atapattu and will discuss with the other candidate during the course of the day and the final decision will be conveyed to the ExCo for their ratification tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya was not at the meeting about the coaching job on Tuesday, as he had resigned from his post earlier in the morning. Atapattu had his final interview on Tuesday.
