Attapatu: The idea is to play our best cricket

2015 World Cup

Sri Lanka coach Marvan Atapattu said his side will not take their eye off the ball and take Scotland lightly when they meet the Associate nation in a World Cup Pool A match in Hobart on Wednesday.

With the Asian team already safely through to the quarterfinal and nursing a spate of injuries, batsman Dinesh Chandimal is the latest player to have withdrawn from the squad, you could forgive them for perhaps not being fully focused on Wednesday's match.

Attapatu however knows that momentum is vital in a tournament such as the World Cup, and wants the players to fight for their postilions in the starting team.

The Sri Lanka coach said: "The idea is to play our best cricket. That is how we want to play every match and it will be no different against Scotland. When you get on the pitch, you start a new game from scratch.

"No team likes to be burdened with injuries, so obviously it is not a good situation to be in. But hopefully the others who are there will deliver.

"Every fit player is in the mix to play but we have not taken a call on whom to leave out."
