The uncapped Alex Doolan has been named in Australia's squad for the fifth and final Ashes Test, which will get underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday.

Doolan is the only change to 14-man party picked for the penultimate match in Melbourne, which the Australians won by eight wickets to take a resounding four-nil series lead, with left-arm fast bowler Doug Bollinger replaced.

Medium-pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile has been retained, while the participation of seamers Ryan Harris and James Faulkner and all-rounder Shane Watson remain in the balance amid injury concerns.

"The NSP has selected a squad of 14 players for the Sydney Test with the addition of Alex Doolan coming in and Doug Bollinger going out. With some players still being assessed by our medical team after four demanding Tests, we have decided to add Alex to ensure we have sufficient cover in our batting line-up should it be required," said national selector John Inverarity.

The 28-year-old Doolan has amassed 3,375 runs in 53 first-class matches, with an average of 37.92 and highest score of 161 not out, and recently scored a fine century for Tasmania against New South Wales at the Blacktown Olympic Park Oval in Sydney.

"Alex is a talented player who came under strong consideration for selection ahead of the Ashes series after a string of solid performances in four-day cricket for Tasmania at the start of this season, but also after an excellent finish to last season and we feel those performances warrant his inclusion in the squad of 14 for Sydney," added Inverarity.

Squad: Chris Rogers, David Warner, Shane Watson, Michael Clarke (captain), Steven Smith, George Bailey, Alex Doolan, Brad Haddin (wicketkeeper), James Faulkner, Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Nathan Coulter-Nile.
