Batsman Alex Doolan's participation in Australia's Test series against Pakistan has been cast in doubt.

Batsman Alex Doolan's participation in Australia's Test series against Pakistan has been cast in doubt.

Doolan sustained a side strain during the National Performance Squad XI's tour of India – but has returned home to have the injury assessed.

"Doolan will return home to Hobart to undergo further investigation and rehabilation ahead of his next playing commitments," said Cricket Australia physiotherapist David Beakley.

"He will have scans in Hobart which will provide a clear indication of the injury and the timeframe for his return to play."

The righ-handed Doolan impressed during February's debut series against South Africa, which included a match-winning 89 in the series opener in Centurion.

Pakistan and the Australians will meet for two Tests – at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi – between 22 October and 3 November.
