Lynn set to miss PSL, serious doubt for IPL

Australia batsman Chris Lynn will miss the Pakistan Super League and is a serious doubt to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) later this year after he dislocated his right shoulder while fielding in the T20 tri-series final against New Zealand on Wednesday at Eden Park.

Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed that Lynn will return to Brisbane to undergo further assessment after he dislocated his right shoulder midway through New Zealand’s innings.

Lynn left the field in the ninth over of New Zealand’s innings after attempting to intercept a clip through midwicket from Ross Taylor and falling awkwardly on his right shoulder.

The explosive right-handed batsman is now set to miss the Pakistan Super League, which is due to start on Friday, and is a serious doubt to take part in the IPL where he is key player for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Australia physio Alex Kountouris said: “Chris dislocated his right shoulder after landing awkwardly on it when fielding the ball.

“His shoulder was able to be put back into place at the ground and he was consequently sent for X-Rays which revealed no major bone injury.

“At this stage Chris will not travel to the Pakistan Super League in Dubai.

“He will return to Brisbane to undergo further scans and assessment and from there we will have a better understanding of the ongoing management, along with the return to play timeframes.”

The injury is a cruel blow for Lynn who has had three previous bouts of surgery done on his left shoulder.

Speaking on his injury on Wednesday, Lynn said: “I’m disappointed to not go to the Pakistan Super League as planned, but I’ll now focus on rehabilitation and working as hard as I can, with the hope to still take part in the Indian Premier League later this year.”
