Australia’s Khawaja to miss rest of World Cup through injury

Matthew Wade is set to step into the Australian side to replace Usman Khawaja, who has been ruled out the World Cup with a hamstring injury.
Khawaja picked up the injury during Australia‘s surprise defeat against South Africa on Saturday and will now miss the rest of the tournament, including Thursday’s semi-final against England.
Coach Justin Langer has confirmed the news and has revealed that Wade is now set to step in. Mitchell Marsh has also been called up to the squad to provide cover for Marcus Stoinis, who is struggling with a side strain.
“It’s such a pity for Khawaja, for someone who’s been so integral to how we’ve been playing,” said Langer.
“But Matthew Wade is coming in, he’s in great form, he’s had a great 12 or 18 months back home but he also just scored two hundreds [for Australia A] so he’s in great nick.
“Mitch Marsh is going to come in on standby for Marcus Stoinis just to see how he comes up. If they have to come in they’ll be ready to step up.”
