Bangladesh Cricket Board summon Mushfiqur Rahim after batter spills the tea
Following Mushfiqur Rahim’s claim that he has been dropped from the T20 squad he has been summoned to a meeting by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Mushfiqur has reportedly been handed a summons from the board and will appear before BCB top brass.
Cricket operations chairman Akram Khan, chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury, disciplinary committee chairman Sheikh Sohel and media committee chairman Jalal Younis will grill Mushfiqur over his contradiction of the BCB.
“We gave him a letter, so that we could meet and talk about his recent interviews,” Akram told ESPNcricinfo.
Mushfiqur Rahim rubbishes suggestion he was rested, claims to have been dropped
“He came at 6pm. I was there, along with Jalal bhai, Sohel bhai and the CEO. We had a good chat. We wanted to remove any misunderstanding between him and the selectors. It wasn’t a show cause.”
Mushfiqur on thin ice thanks to priors
Mushfiqur spoke to journalists in Bangladesh the day after chief selector Minhajul Abedin claimed that he had been “rested” as he announce the squad to face Pakistan.
“To be honest I haven’t reached the stage when I have to tell someone that I need rest,” Mushfiqur said in an interview with Channel 24.
“I am definitely available. Why won’t I be? I obviously had a disappointing World Cup. I needed an opportunity to bounce back.
“I was asked if I was available, to which I said of course I am available. But I was told that the selection committee, team management, head coach and team director took a collective decision to drop me.”
Pat Cummins and Steve Smith are in the frame to be named next Australia captain
Mushfiqur’s mercurial World Cup form earned him heat on social media in Bangladesh, and he has a history of making off colour or out of line remarks in press conferences, interviews and even on the field.
Bangladesh responded to their poor World Cup by making six changes to the squad facing Pakistan in this three-match series.
Mushfiqur, Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das were left out of the Bangladesh squad, but the selectors and team management led by head coach Russell Domingo kept faith in skipper Mahmudullah and batter Afif Hossain.
