Bopara: All I can do is score runs

Batsman Ravi Bopara insists that his path into the England side will not be made easier by the fact that he knows new coach Trevor Bayliss well.

Bayliss, an Australia, coached Bopara in the Big Bash League with the Sydney Sixes and also crossed paths with him at the IPL.

But the fact that Bopara, who scored a century for Essex against Australia in a tour match on Friday, knows how the coach operates does not guarantee him a recall to international cricket.

The 30 year-old Bopara, who has played in 13 Tests, told Sky Sports: "The style of cricket (from England) has been brilliant. It's a way we should have been playing for a long, long time so it's brilliant to see that happening.

"I've worked with Trevor before at the Sydney Sixes, I know him quite well through the IPL as well. He is a fantastic coach so it should be interesting times for England.

"There's only one currency for me and that is scoring runs and taking wickets. It's all I can do."

The Ashes between England and Australia gets underway next week with the first Test in Cardiff on 8 July.
