Carberry recalled for Sri Lanka LOIs

England have announced their T20 and ODI squads for the series against Sri Lanka this month, with veteran opener Michael Carberry the most interesting recall after seemingly talking himself out of a job.
While Carberry was the best limited-overs batsman in England last season, averaging over 55 in T20 cricket and 47 in one-dayers, he was left out against Australia, and gave a very outspoken interview about his disappointment.
But it seems coach Peter Moores is the forgiving type, and has added uncapped Carberry to the T20 squad, as well as the ODI outfit. Also recalled to the T20 side was Ian Bell, who has not played in the format in years.
The T20 side will be captained by Eoin Morgan in the absence of fast bowler Stuart Broad, who will miss both series with his knee injury not yet healed. His absence also gives a chance to young Harry Gurney, while Tim Bresnan is still a coach favourite.
An interesting omission in the T20 squad is batsman Michael Lumb, just a month after scoring an ODI century. Also left out is Jade Dernbach, the so-called death over specialist, but recent performances did not inspire confidence.
National Selector, James Whitaker, said: "Playing the World T20 Champions in front of a home crowd is a hugely exciting opportunity for this squad. With Stuart currently unavailable we have chosen Eoin to lead the side and I would like to wish him and the rest of the squad all the very best.
"We are entering an important period of 50-over cricket with a World Cup less than nine months away and this series against a skilful Sri Lankan side offers a chance to regain some momentum and for players to demonstrate the skill and passion we will need if we are to be serious contenders next year in Australia and New Zealand."
T20 squad: Eoin Morgan (Capt), Moeen Ali, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Jos Buttler, Michael Carberry, Harry Gurney, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, Joe Root, James Tredwell, Chris Woakes
ODI squad (First three games): Alastair Cook, James Anderson, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Jos Buttler, Michael Carberry, Harry Gurney, Chris Jordan, Eoin Morgan, Joe Root, James Tredwell, Chris Woakes
