Captain Michael Clarke's presence in Australia's squad for next month's tour of India remained in the balance on Friday.

Clarke has been named in the 14-man party despite a recurring back injury. Wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade and leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed, meanwhile, have been dropped.

"For me right now it's about getting on the phone to Alex Kountouris, the Australian physiotherapist, and communicating with him as I have been over the last couple of weeks since he's been back in Australia and we'll make a plan from there," said Clarke.

"No doubt, it's quite stiff and sore but I'll be guided by the experts on what I need to do now to try and get myself as fit as I can be."

The inexperienced Nathan Coulter-Nile has been included, with all-rounder Moises Henriques recalled. The Indians and Australians will meet for one T20I and seven ODIs between 10 October and 2 November.
