Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar and international commentator Mark Nicholas were involved in a car crash in England on Monday, but escaped unhurt after their Jaguar was hit between Manchester and London.

The pair were being driven to London for the fifth Test between England and India when the accident occurred, and reports have said the driver was dozing off while driving in the wet weather.

Gavaskar told Mid-Day: "God has saved us. There was torrential rain and our car was being driven very fast. Thankfully, no one was hurt although the accident was very, very scary.

"I was visibly shaken after the accident."

Apparently, the driver was alerted to the oncoming collision by Gavaskar, and then avoided a fatal crash at the last minute. All occupants were unhurt though, and Gavaskar and Nicholas boarded a train to London soon afterwards.
