Cummins on the up in bid for Test place

Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins says he's feeling completely fit, and is working on restoring his original pre-injury pace.

Cummins has been out of action for most of the year, but has returned to action for New South Wales in the Matador Cup, taking 4/26 against Queensland on Friday.

While he's unlikely to challenge for a place in what remains of 2016, he is looking to next year, and given recent events in South Africa, the selectors will be thrilled if he continues to shine.

Cummins said: “(The) body feels better and better each game, I haven’t really had to think about it.

“The ball feels like it’s coming out where I want it to. Couldn’t be happier.

“We played a couple of trial games (before the Matador Cup) … I tried to crank it up (his pace) for a couple of spells.

“I was pretty comfortable throughout this pre-season, trying to work on a little bit on technique and just bowling within myself.

“I think in the pre-season my top speed in the nets was about 122kph so hopefully it was a bit quicker than that.”

Cummins will look to play in the Matador Cup, Sheffield Shield, and Big Bash League ahead of potentially being picked for the India tour early next year.
