Daddy Duminy withdraws from T20 squad

South Africa will be without veteran all-rounder JP Duminy for the T20 series against New Zealand this weekend, as he has been granted extended paternity leave to be with his wife and new baby.

Duminy was already going to be missing the ODI series already, but the baby's arrival means he's been given Friday and Sunday's games off too.

A Cricket South Africa media release said: "Oxigen Proteas all-rounder, JP Duminy, has been given an extended period of paternity leave and has been withdrawn from the two-match KFC T20 International series against New Zealand. He will not be replaced in the squad."

This gives an opportunity to spinner Eddie Leie to impress again after his great debut, while Aaron Phangiso may hope for a spot as well, given Duminy is the side's senior spinner in T20s. But a better batsman is likely to be picked.

Duminy is one of a few players to enjoy new family members at this time, with AB de Villiers recently gaining a son, and Morne Morkel's wife also about to give birth. Morkel has already been withdrawn from the ODI squad.
