Dhoni reportedly has 'fractured right thumb'

That India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will miss the first Test against Australia in December is already a fact, but reports have suggested that the reason for it is a crack at the base of his right thumb.

That India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will miss the first Test against Australia in December is already a fact, but reports have suggested that the reason for it is a crack at the base of his right thumb.

The injury was originally stated to be a right forearm issue, and then a wrist problem, before finally becoming a right thumb injury. It has now emerged that it's a bit more serious, and the BCCI are taking no risks ahead of the World Cup.

While it was not officially revealed, an unnamed source told Cricinfo: "He could well have risked playing in Brisbane but eventually it was decided against playing him in the opening Test since nobody wants the injury to recur or aggravate with the World Cup set to start in a little over two months after the Brisbane Test."

The team will be captained by batsman Virat Kohli at the 'Gabba. Dhoni was also set to play in the last two ODIs against Sri Lanka, but Kohli continued on as skipper there too.
