Domingo and Kallis to chat about ODI future

Coach Russell Domingo is eager to ascertain the extent of all-rounder Jacques Kallis' ambition in the limited-overs fold, as South Africa plot their 2015 World Cup campaign.
Coach Russell Domingo is eager to ascertain the extent of all-rounder Jacques Kallis' ambition in the limited-overs fold, as South Africa plot their 2015 World Cup campaign.
Test cricket's fourth-highest run-scorer, Kallis has not played an ODI in 18 months and a T20I since October 2012 – and made himself unavailable for selection ahead of the Champions Trophy in the United Kingdom earlier this year.
May through April, however, brought him a lucrative stretch of form for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.
"I will schedule an appointment with him and we'll have to talk things through," the Rapport quoted Domingo as saying. "I know from what period I want him to play for us.
"It would simply be unfair to expect other players to now do duty and then when the World Cup arrives, we suddenly include Jacques again.
"It just cannot work that way. We know what we have in him, but he has to play for us in the period before the World Cup if he wants to be considered."
The Proteas' next assignment will be a full tour of the United Arab Emirates, where they will play two Tests, five ODIs and two Twenty20 Internationals against Pakistan.
"We also have to make peace with the fact that the day will come when we cannot call on Kallis' number anymore. We have to learn to live without Kallis, even though it will be tough," added Domingo.
