Coach Russell Domingo has welcomed the inclusion of the uncapped Rilee Rossouw in South Africa's squad for this month's ODI series against Zimbabwe.
Rossouw gathered an impressive stretch of form during South Africa A's recent tri-series against Australia A and India A, subsequently graduating to a strong touring party that also includes fellow rookie Mthokozisi Shezi.
Fast bowlers Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander and Morne Morkel, meanwhile, have been rested. The lanky Marchant de Lange has been recalled – the talented Kagiso Rabada included as a non-playing member of the squad.
"I went on a South Africa A tour with Rilee to Bangladesh and I've always thought that he was a special player. He has always had the ability to win games, so I'm very pleased that he's got into the squad," said Domingo.
"He has been a consistent performer for two or three years now He's an exciting player to have in the mix. He's another left-hander and he's definitely a modern limited-overs player."
The Zimbabweans and Proteas will meet for three matches at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on 17, 19 and 21 August. A tri-series, also featuring Australia, will follow from 27 August to 4 September.
"From reports that I've read, they're most likely going to prepare quite a flat wicket, which will be good for us. We play a lot of cricket in the sub-continent next year, India and Bangladesh, so the more preparation we get under those type of conditions will definitely benefit us," concluded Domingo.
