Domingo cherishes extension of Amla's contributions

South Africa coach Russell Domingo welcomed the appointment of new Test captain Hashim Amla on Tuesday.
South Africa coach Russell Domingo welcomed the appointment of new Test captain Hashim Amla on Tuesday.
Amla has succeeded former skipper Graeme Smith, who retired from international cricket earlier this year.
ODI skipper AB de Villiers, T20I leader Faf du Plessis and batsman JP Duminy were also in contention, but were ultimately overlooked.
"Hashim has been contributing behind the scenes in a big way and already made a massive contribution. Now it's just an extension of his contributions," said Domingo.
Uncapped spinner Dane Piedt and batsman Stiaan van Zyl, meanwhile, have been named in the squad for next month's two-Test series against Sri Lanka.
The in-form Kyle Abbott, who is currently playing for Hampshire in the County Championship, and Quinton de Kock have been retained.
Fast bowler Rory Kleinveldt, spinner Robin Peterson, all-rounder Ryan McLaren and wicketkeeper Thami Tsolekile were excluded. Left-arm seamer Lonwabo Tsotsobe was not considered due to an ankle injury.
