Batsman JP Duminy has implored the South African order to put in a stronger performance, come Wednesday's third ODI against Pakistan at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

The Proteas managed a mere 183 all out and 209 all out in the five-match series, which is currently locked after one win apiece. No visiting player has managed more than all-rounder Wayne Parnell's 56 in the opening fixture.

The host attack, meanwhile, have relied on the success of spinners Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal. The trio have shared 20 of the wickets to fall – and are all likely to be retained for in Abu Dhabi.

"We are in a tight position at the moment but it's not the end of the world. We haven't had two great performances with the bat and everyone would be thinking that's a worrying factor and that is probably true," said Duminy.

"We've got to stand up and be accountable for it as a batting unit. We'll be first to admit that it hasn't been our best and we've got to find ways and means to counter their bowling attack, which is arguably one of the best in the world in terms of the one-day format.

"When you are losing wickets up front you are playing catch-up cricket and a lot of us, including myself, have got into 20s and 30s and got out. When teams are doing well from a batting perspective the guys that are in take the responsibility to push on to the 80s and 100s."

The right-handed Hashim Amla, meanwhile, has returned from paternity leave. Fast bowler Dale Steyn, too, will be available for the rest of the tour after being rested for the opening two fixtures.

"Hashim's return is a bonus but there's no guarantee that he will come and score runs. He is probably given us the best starts in the ODI format, so it's great to have him back," added Duminy.

"There is no pressure on him but he brings a lot of experience to the team and it's always great to have him. Hopefully he can contribute to our batting performance."
