The England and Wales Cricket Board have rested Test and ODI captain for the remainder of the domestic season.

Cook will not participate in the remainder of Essex's County Championship campaign, while the bulk of the Test, T20I and ODI batsmen have been cleared to play.

Batsmen Gary Ballance and Joe Root are available for Yorkshire, while Nottinghamshire have been afforded the services of opener Alex Hales and fast bowler Harry Gurney.

The in-form Ian Bell and all-rounder Chris Woakes has been afforded permission to play for Warwickshire. Lancashire's James Anderson, Middlesex's Steven Finn and Sussex's Chris Jordan, meanwhile, will be rested soon.

Batsman Cook led England to a three-one Test series win over India recently, but struggled for a consistent stretch of form in ODI series defeat to the same opposition.
