England fined for slow over rate at Lord's

England captain Alastair Cook has been fined 20 percent of his match fee after the drawn Test against Sri Lanka at Lord's, after his side failed to keep up with the required over rate when bowling.
England captain Alastair Cook has been fined 20 percent of his match fee after the drawn Test against Sri Lanka at Lord's, after his side failed to keep up with the required over rate when bowling.
The match lost 17 overs due to tardy bowling from both sides, making the thrilling ending all the more intriguing as those overs could have helped England win. But Sri Lanka were not fined at all by match referee Andy Pycroft.
The ICC statement read: "Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fines after the side was ruled to be one over short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration.
"In accordance with the regulations of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel (the Code) governing minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.
"As such, Alastair Cook was fined 20 per cent of his match fee, while his players received 10 per cent fines."
The second and final Test will be played at Headingley in Leeds from 20 June.
