Faf: Dutch win our best
Proteas captain Faf du Plessis believes his team's six-run victory over the Netherlands at the recently completed World T20 Championships was their best of the tournament.
Proteas captain Faf du Plessis believes his team's six-run victory over the Netherlands at the recently completed World T20 Championships was their best of the tournament.
South Africa advanced to the semi-finals after recording consecutive victories over New Zealand, Netherlands and England, before losing to India by six wickets in their last four match.
In the match against the Dutch, though, the Proteas came back strongly after looking like being at the end of the biggest upset of the tournament.
After struggling 146 in their 20 overs, the South Africans manages to restrict the Dutch to a score of 139 even though they were on their way to a victory with the score on 116/4 shortly before.
"I don't think people realise how good it was to come back in that game to win by six runs," Du Plessis told the Beeld website.
"We were in big trouble with the Netherlands, but the bowlers were brilliant to eventually dismiss them for 139.
"I feel we showed a lot of character in this tournament and I'm very proud of my team.
"Yes, obviously I'd like to be sitting here with the trophy, but I'm not disappointed that it's not the case. The two best teams in the tournament played in the final and it was no disgrace to lose to India in the semi-finals.
"This tournament did show that we can produce results in the big moments. In that semi-final we were only beaten by a team that played better than us."
