Faf ruled out of New Zealand ODI series

South Africa will be without stalwart batsman Faf du Plessis for the one-day series against New Zealand, Cricket South Africa confirmed on Wednesday, as he has not recovered from his knee injury.
Du Plessis missed the T20 series as well, leaving AB de Villiers to captain the side, and it was hoped that his left leg would be fixed in time for the ODIs, but that is not the case.
CSA said in a release: "Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the ODI series after failing to recover from an injury to a tendon in his left knee.
"He has been advised a rest period of three weeks to ensure a full recovery ahead of the tour to India at the end of September."
As a result, all-rounder David Wiese was handed a debut in the opening ODI at Centurion, while Farhaan Behardien retained his place. Pressure will be on both to fill the gap left by Du Plessis.
