Sri Lanka coach Paul Farbrace has quit his post just three months into the job, after the England and Wales Cricket Board came acalling, and is now free to take up the role of Peter Moores' assistant coach.

Moores was hired as England's new head coach last week, with Farbrace tipped to be his assistant. But Farbrace first had to get out of his Sri Lanka deal, just weeks after winning the Asia Cup and then the World Twenty20.

While Farbrace had said he was 'conflicted' about the more lucrative offer from England, he quit Sri Lanka on Tuesday in order to take up the more secure, less political role at the ECB.

SLC's media release said: "The National Coach Paul Farbrace tendered his resignation and has indicated to SLC of his unavailability to continue with SLC with immediate effect in order to take up an appointment with the ECB."
