Fawad Alam named in Pakistan Test squad
Pakistan have named their Test squad for the series against England in the UAE, and have also named their touring party for the limited-overs matches in Zimbabwe later this month.
One notable inclusion in the 15-man Test squad is Fawad Alam, who has not played a Test in five years. The left-handed batsman played the last of his three Tests in 2009, but has been part of recent ODI sides.
Fast bowler Wahab Riaz is back from injury, as is Sohaib Maqsood, who is part of the T20 and ODI squads. Zulfiqur Babar and Yasir Shah have been picked as the front line spinners.
Pakistan will play two warm-up games ahead of the England encounters in October, and there they will pick a 16th squad member, a spinner, after skipper Misbah-ul-Haq requested this.
Chief selector Haroon Rashid said: "In the light of Misbah-ul-Haq recommendations, we have kept the options open for the 16th player in the Test squad against England, picking up two left-arm spin bowlers, namely Zafar Gohar and Mohammad Asghar, for the brace of practice games against England prior to the Test matches in the UAE.
"Whoever amongst the two performs well would be added to the Test squad."
As for the T20 squad to face Zimbabwe, uncapped paceman Imran Khan Jr (no relation to his more legendary namesake) and all-rounder Amir Yamin have been included.
Test squad Ahmed Shehzad, Shan Masood, Azhar Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Fawad Alam, Asad Shafiq, Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Younis Khan, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Yasir Shah, Zulfiqar Babar, Wahab Riaz, Imran Khan, Rahat Ali and Junaid Khan
