Finch: I wasn’t dropped, I was injured
Australia opener Aaron Finch says he's not been dropped from the ODI side at all, but that he hadn't been picked for the England series due to his run of serious injuries in recent months.
Finch suffered a torn hamstring while playing in the IPL in April, and after recovering from that surgery, he went and picked up a fractured foot while playing for Yorkshire, and that also needed an operation.
As such, he's been on the sidelines for much of the past four months, so understands why he wasn't picked for the series. He's only just returned to training, after all.
Finch told News Corp: "I spoke to (Australia chief selector) Rod Marsh at length the other day.
"I said 'Rod have you dropped me or was I not considered for selection because I haven't been playing?'.
"He said 'you're not dropped, you're just not considered because you haven't played and we feel it’s the right time to give other guys a go'.
"All indications are that I haven't been dropped."
Finch will be replaced by Queensland opener Joe Burns for the ODI series, and while Finch is pleased for the player, he hopes Burns doesn't do too well in the role, as it will make it tough to get the spot back.
He added: "Joe Burns is a very good player and there is always that case if someone comes in and dominates and you don't get your spot back.
"I'm still confident I can get runs for Yorkshire and Victoria and be back."
