Footage: KP explains how to switch hit

Blog Opinion

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen is well-known for his explosive, and sometimes bizarre batting, and the most famous example is the controversial switch hit.

The right-hander invented the shot when he changes his hands and feet to left-handed as the ball is bowled, confounding bowlers and umpires alike, who were unsure about whether he was even allowed to do that.

The shot has since been cleared, but no-one plays it better than Pietersen, and in this video the Surrey batsman demonstrates the technique, giving a lesson behind its origins and how best to play it.

"I don't look orthodox. I don't know how I've scored runs sometimes, batting the way that I do."
