Former Indian spin bowler Rajesh Chauhan has suffered a heart attack – and underwent surgery at Apollo BSR hospital in Chhattisgarh on Monday.

The 47-year-old Chauhan, who played 21 Tests and 35 ODIs between January 1993 and March 1998 is reported in a stable condition.

The wily off-spinner took 76 wickets in intentional cricket, including a career-best match haul of seven for 107 against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in December 1997.

He worked as assistant coach of the Mumbai Champs in the now-disbanded Indian Cricket League after retiring – and was injured in a motor vehicle accident in April 2007.
