Ganguly has faith in ‘terrific’ Kohli
Sourav Ganguly says the surfaces produced so far in the four-match Test series between India and South Africa was fair as every country uses home ground advantage to get ahead of the opposition.
Ganguly, who is India's most successful Test captain, said teams from outside the subcontinent should learn how to play on pitches that turn and bounce.
The pitches for the first and third Tests, in Mohali and Nagpur, has come in for severe criticism from the media and former players around the world as it has taken spin from day one.
Ganguly said: "Every team utilises their home advantage and India have used it, that's the way it is. Teams who come to the subcontinent have to learn how to play spin, that's what you are going to get here.
"The ball is going to turn, it's going to bounce. You need to find a way to play. Bowlers have had a lot of help from the surface. The ball has really turned a lot. In Mohali (first Test) and Nagpur, it has really turned a lot too."
Ganguly, who retired from international cricket in 2008, also gave a ringing endorsement of the Indian captaincy to Virat Kohli, who achieved his first Test series victory on home soil against the Proteas.
The former left-handed batsman said: "Virat is a terrific young player and has done really well. I have got a lot of faith in him."
