Gillespie: England right to stick with Bresnan

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie has full faith in all-rounder Tim Bresnan, and is pleased to see that England coach Peter Moores has not discarded the veteran Viking just yet.

The Yorkshire player has been good with the bat this season so far, though many expressed surprise when he was picked for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka after some poor performances earlier in the year.

But Gillespie, the former Australia fast bowler, feels Bresnan has been working hard behind the scenes and deserves his Three Lions place, and has shown his class for Yorkshire in recent weeks.

Gillespie said on Monday: "It's pleasing to see England have shown a bit of faith. I've been very impressed with Bres. He's been working on a couple of minor technical things.

"The ball is coming out well and is carrying through well to the keeper, and he bowled a really good length (against Warwickshire). Because Durham was his first game, he was feeling it a little bit.

"To go from playing a second-team game, where we can control the number of overs he bowls, to all of a sudden being in a first-class game, I think he bowled 30 overs on a heavy outfield.

"We gave him a couple of days off to refresh and get away from cricket for a bit, and he came back and benefited from having an extra day off."
