Gillespie: I’ve spoken to Strauss about coach vacancy

Jason Gillespie has confirmed that he has spoken to ECB director of cricket Andrew Strauss about the vacant England coaching position.

Gillespie, who has been coaching English county champions Yorkshire for the past three years, is the favourite to replace Peter Moores who was sacked when Strauss was appointed in his new role earlier this month.

The Australian is just one of a number of candidates that Strauss will speak to before making his decision on who will take on the Three Lions' coaching reins.

Gillespie said: "I've spoken to Andrew and the ECB about the vacant position. They made it very clear they're chatting to a number of people of interest, so they'll let us know what the process is in due course. At this stage there's nothing more to say.

"It was face-to-face (with Strauss), and we had a good chat and we'll see what pans out from there."

Paul Farbrace, who was assistant coach to Moores, is currently in charge of the side in the two-Test series against New Zealand.
