Australia fast bowler Ryan Harris has signed up to be Queensland Cricket's bowling mentor, across all levels, and will coach the bowlers for the Big Bash, Sheffield Shield, and other tournaments.

Harris is out of action with a knee problem, having undergone surgery earlier this year in a quest to prolong his resurgent career. The 36-year-old was a key member of the Aussies' recent Ashes campaigns.

But he has taken up the role as bowling coach while he recovers, and past that too, though Queensland coach Stuart Law expects Harris to be away with Australia once he recovers, though only early next year.

Harris will also be involved with the youth and women's sides, and could play in the Big Bash League if fit and required.

Law said on Cricinfo: "If a Shane Watson or Mitchell Johnson is unavailable due to national commitments and Ryan was available, then he could come into the team as a player during BBL 04.

"Of course that would be a bonus if it happened – all things being equal, we would expect him to be involved with the Australian side for much of the summer."
