Hendricks, Phangiso named in ODI squad

The uncapped Beuran Hendricks has been named in South Africa's squad for July's Test series against Sri Lanka.
The uncapped Beuran Hendricks has been named in South Africa's squad for July's Test series against Sri Lanka.
Batsman Faf du Plessis has been included in the 14-man squad too, effectively as a replacement for the retired Graeme Smith. Spin bowler Aaron Phangiso, meanwhile, has been recalled.
The veteran Jacques Kallis, who recently retired from Test cricket, will be afforded the chance to push for a berth in the squad for next year's World Cup in Australasia.
Fast bowler Beuran Hendricks debuted at T20I level earlier this year – and has since been promoted to ODI cricket in the wake of fellow left-armer Lonwabo Tsotsobe's ongoing recovery from ankle surgery.
"The tour to Sri Lanka obviously has different tactical considerations to a home series and that required us to alter the balance between our seam and spin bowling options," said selection convener Andrew Hudson. "This squad are well equipped to take us forward as we endeavour to have a successful run-up to next year's World Cup."
"It's nice for Beuran to come in. He is someone that is on the up. Let's see where he is in six months time. I am concerned that we haven't got Lopsy now. I hope Lopsy will be back sooner rather than later. Part of this World Cup build-up is that you want those combinations working."
The Sri Lankans and Proteas will meet for three ODIs – in Colombo, Pallekele and Hambantota – between 6 and 12 July. Two Tests will follow.
ODI squad: Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock (wicketkeeper), Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers (captain), JP Duminy, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Ryan McLaren, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Imran Tahir, Vernon Philander, Faf du Plessis, Aaron Phangiso, Beuran Hendricks.
