India skipper to have shoulder scanned
India captain Virat Kohli spent much of the first day of play against Australia in the third Test in Ranchi off the field having picked up a shoulder knock.
The skipper completed a diving save early on the first day and left the field as a precautionary measure after feeling in some discomfort.
The extent of the injury is not known at this point and it is unclear if Kohli will be able to bat once Australia complete their innings.
Kohli rolled awkwardly as he hauled in a ball that was bound for the boundary rope and after receiving some treatment left the field leaving Ajinkya Rahane to lead the team.
India fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar revealed after stumps that Kohli will undergo scans to assess the injury.
Sridhar said: “(Kohli) is going to undergo some scans later today and we’ll know the exact status of it tomorrow morning.
“What happened today was we took a precaution and make sure he doesn’t aggravate that injury.
“As far as technique of dive is concerned, it was quite an intense chase to the boundary line and … impact was quite heavy from the momentum he was carrying so there was a shock on his right shoulder.”
Australia reached 299/4 by the close of play to seize control of the third Test.
