Injured Harris set to miss first Ashes Test

Fast bowler Ryan Harris is set to miss out on selection for the first Ashes Test against England after he was left out of the final warm up match because of a sore knee.

After playing in the match against Kent, Harris was initially included in the starting team to take on Essex in Chelmsford on Wednesday but was ruled out on the morning the match and replaced by Peter Siddle.

Although he has not officially been ruled out of the opening Test, starting on 8 July in Cardiff, Aussie coach Darren Lehmann has previously said that Harris needed to prove his fitness after a knee operation.

The news will come as a blow to the 35 year-old Harris who carefully planned his comeback after the operation then missing aTest series against the West Indies last month because his wife gave birth to their child.

With Harris struggling for fitness the Australia bowling attack selects itself with Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood expected to play in Cardiff.
