Pakistan have called up fast bowler Mohammad Irfan as cover for paceman Junaid Khan, after the latter suffered a concussion in the second Test against Sri Lanka.
Junaid was struck in the head by a Dhammika PRasad bouncer and was ruled out of the last two days of the Test, which Sri Lanka won. While he was said to be OK for the ODI series, the selectors have opted to be cautious.
"Junaid is getting better and has started practising," Pakistan team manager Moin Khan told Cricinfo. "We just want to strengthen the bench, in case anything goes wrong with Junaid, then we can have a bowler to replace him."
Irfan though has not played international cricket in nearly a year, after picking up a hip fracture and going for surgery. He will depart for Sri Lanka on Wednesday, with the first ODI to be played on 23 August.
