Jadeja returns for injured Axar

An injury to spinner Axar Patel has led India to shelve plans to rest left-arm tweaker Ravindra Jadeja for the ODI series against Australia.

Axar sprained his ankle during a training session this week and will have to sit out the series.

Jadeja and Test spinning partner Ravichandran Ashwin had been left out of the squad with the heavy Test schedule cited as the reasoning.

The left-armer has been out of sorts in ODI cricket of late struggling through a difficult Champions Trophy and failing to make an impression in the Caribbean.

Some feel that India have designated the pair as Test specialists and the selectors are looking to new blood for limited overs formats with Kuldeep Yadav and Axar doing well in white ball cricket.

Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad made it plain that the spinners were being rested for this series with a view to keeping them fresh for the upcoming trips to South Africa, England and Australia.

The first match of the series takes place in Chennai on Sunday on what is expected to be a batting friendly wicket in front of a packed stadium.
